The Virginia Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission (Tobacco Commission) established a program in 2002 to offer assistance with a bachelor’s degree and, therefore, strengthen the economies of Southwest (SW) and Southern Virginia (SV) through education and training of its citizens.

**ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING 2019-2020 ACADEMIC YEAR (Fall 2019 and Spring 2020)**

Below is a statement issued by the Virginia Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission regarding the future of this program:

“The Tobacco Region Loan Forgiveness Program is being updated to a loan repayment/talent attraction grant program.  This new program will stretch the Commission's reduced resources farther and continue to focus on ensuring our region has the most talented workforce possible.  New program rules and applications will be developed once funding is approved by the Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission in June 2019. Please visit the Commission's website at for future announcements about the new program.  In the meantime, the Commission encourages students to find alternate lenders.”
